  COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY PREPARATORY

 

  • The College and University Preparatory program is undergoing an extensive program review and revisions to the program.Students will be contacted if those changes affect them.

College and University Preparatory courses enable students to upgrade their academic skills to prepare for the workforce, college or university.

IMPORTANT DATES

The College Preparatory Upgrading program is delivered in eight week blocks, students should pay careful attention to their registration confirmation forms as they will outline specific dates.

Further Information
The College and University Preparatory courses are delivered in an eight week term format. All course ³add/drops² must be carried out in consultation with the Program Leader of College and University Preparatory. Credit requirements currently range from 15 to 25 credits, depending on the requirements of sponsoring agencies. It is the Applicantıs responsibility to register for and maintain credit minimums as required for sponsorships.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

New students are accepted into the College and University Preparatory program every eight weeks beginning the last week in August.

Academic Requirements
The College and University Preparatory program is open to any person 18 years of age or older who has the desire and the academic skills to cope with a selected course level. Admission is based on academic background, testing and advisement. All Applicants must write a placement test and meet with a student advisor for interpretation of the test results and to complete a training plan prior to confirmation of admission. Assessment test results and prior academic success are used to place students in appropriate courses.

  • The courses offered in this program, which are numbered 010, 020, 030 or 013, 033 are high school equivalency courses for which students did not receive Alberta high school credits. The College issues its own grades which are acceptable to each of Albertaıs universities and colleges, technical institutes, and most of the colleges and universities in the United States to which Alberta students normally apply.

All fees are approximate and are based on a full credit load for each program (the number of credits may depend upon the elective courses selected) and is subject to change. Costs of books and supplies are estimated. Supply costs include only the specialized materials and equipment needed for the program and not basic stationery supplies. The LCC Studentsı Association fees are subject to change. For more detailed information on tuition fee calculation and other fees, students are advised to consult the FEES section of this Calendar.

* Fees are based on the completion of 4 eight-week blocks at 15 credits per block.

PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT

Students accepted into this program have the opportunity to apply related employment, volunteer, educational or training experiences toward the completion of the program. For information on Prior Learning Assessment, students should contact the Registrarıs Office.

GRADUATION

All students in the College and University Preparatory program who accumulate at least 30 credits in academic courses taken through Lethbridge Community College are eligible to receive a Recognition of Academic Achievement at Convocation. To qualify, students must take four courses at the Grade 12 level - one of which must be English 030 or 033 - and earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 1.50.

Honours Status
Students having final grades in at least 15 credits who obtain a term grade point average in the College and University Preparatory program of at least 3.50 with no failing grade are eligible for Honours Status.
