Individuals
who wish to become a skilled automotive service technician should
start their training with the Automotive Service Technology two
year diploma program. The program provides the knowledge and first-hand
experience to identify and solve mechanical and electrical faults
in modern automobiles.
Students study
the construction and operation of all automotive components. Emphasis
is on diagnosis and repair of components from basic systems to advanced
electronic systems. Actual repairs and overhaul procedures are applied
to both shop units and customer vehicles using up to-date equipment
to simulate industry shop conditions.

REQUIREMENTS
New students
are accepted into the Automotive Service Technology program for
the Fall term only.
Academic
Requirements
Applicants are required to have an Alberta High School Diploma or
equivalent with credit in Math 33 or equivalent.

PRIOR
LEARNING ASSESSMENT
Students accepted
into this program have the opportunity to apply related employment,
volunteer, educational or training experiences toward the completion
of the program. For information on Prior Learning Assessment, students
should contact the Registrarıs Office.
GRADUATION
Upon successful
completion of all program requirements, students are awarded a Diploma
in Automotive Service Technology.
EMPLOYMENT
OPPORTUNITIES
After completing
the program, graduates have an excellent understanding of all facets
of the automotive trade and may enter allied industries with the
ability to service the basic and the technically-sophisticated components
used today. Or, they may return to operate todayıs highly mechanized
farm using the extensive knowledge gained in the automotive repair
industry. There is also good potential for becoming self-employed.
TRANSFER
AGREEMENTS
Alberta Apprenticeship
Program
Successful
graduates may write Alberta Apprenticeship examinations for credit
toward certification after indenturing in the trade. Many graduates
with journeyman certification and four to six years of work experience
in the trade work as shop supervisors, service managers, service
station or specialist shop operators.
